Del Norte alumni from the AlumKnights joined with the family of fallen Albuquerque Police Officer Jerry Cline and others to honor him with a memorial paver for the DNHS Brick Garden on July 24, 2021. Gerald E. “Jerry” Cline was in the first Del Norte High School graduating class of 1966 where he was a pitcher for Del Norte’s baseball team in 1965 and 1966. After graduating from Eastern NM University, he joined the Albuquerque Police Department in 1971 as part of the 37th class. He was killed in the line of duty on February 24, 1983.
Jerry’s widow Yolanda Cline, his three children and many grandchildren honored Jerry with the installation and dedication of a Del Norte AlumKnights engraved paver for the DNHS Brick Garden. Cline’s three children spoke and shared memories of their father. Others in attendance included current and retired APD officers, former Deputy Police Chief Nick Bakkas, Albuquerque District 7 City Councilor Diane Gibson and several members of the DNHS Class of ’66.
The Jerry Cline Tennis Center and Park on Constitution near Louisiana was named in Jerry’s honor in the late 1980s.
