Support the AlumKnights

The Del Norte High School AlumKnights® is asking for your support.

Did you attend the Celebrate the Knight event in June 2014 in commemoration of Del Norte’s 50th anniversary? Did you tailgate at Homecoming last October when the 1974 football team was honored on the 40th anniversary of taking the State Football Championship? Maybe you joined the AlumKnights® to have dinner at Sadie’s last November or breakfast at Applebee’s this June.

All of these events are sponsored by a dedicated group of Del Norte alumni who are working to support the students and staff at Del Norte with scholarships and other activities to help with specific student and school needs. We also hope to provide fun events for alumni to get together and see old friends…or make new ones! To continue our work, we need your support.

In 2012, a group of Del Norte alumni came together to establish the AlumKnights®, an alumni-sponsored service organization dedicated to serving the Del Norte community. Less than a year after AlumKnights® was established, we were pleased to award three $1,000 scholarships to students in the class of 2013. We have since provided scholarships to four students in the class of 2014 and six students in the class of 2015.

That’s a grand total of $14,000 awarded during our first three years as an organization – and we hope to do a lot more with your generous support!

Currently, we are working to raise $10,000 for scholarships and other student support activities during the 2015-16 school year. Our goal is ambitious, but with your help, we know it’s attainable.

Will you consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the AlumKnights®?

To contribute, please mail the AlumKnights Donation Form to the address specified or Donate Online.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Angelo Gonzales, Treasurer, treasurer@alumknights.info.

Year-End Scholarships Fundraiser

Greetings from the Del Norte High School AlumKnights®. As you are doing your year-end tax planning, we ask that you consider making a tax-deductible donation to AlumKnights, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Your donation will support scholarships and other activities for students, teachers, and staff at Del Norte High School. In just the past two years, we are proud to report that we established the Drawbridge to Success scholarship fund and awarded $8,000 in scholarships to seven graduating seniors, who are now attending Central New Mexico Community College and the University of New Mexico.

Additionally, we hosted welcome-back breakfasts and lunches for teachers and school staff during the last two school years; we volunteered with and supported numerous Del Norte student organizations; we reinstalled the DNHS knight that was a gift of the class of 1966; we established a Del Norte Legacy “Brick Garden” on the site of the new school; and we held a very successful 50th Anniversary celebration last summer.

Over the next year, our goal is develop mentorship opportunities for current students and to award at least four new $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from the Class of 2015 (Del Norte’s 50th graduating class).

In order to continue this important work, we need your help! We are currently asking for financial contributions to help support our ongoing endeavors. Any amount will help, but with a $25 contribution we can continue the success of the last year and take our work to the next level. Alternatively, you may wish to consider purchasing either a small or large brick ($50 and $100, respectively) for the Del Norte Legacy Brick Garden.

To donate, please mail the AlumKnights Donation Form to the address specified or Donate Online.

To learn more about how to purchase a brick for the Del Norte Legacy Brick Garden, please visit our Brick Garden Fundraiser page .

Thank you for your consideration. Your support will help promote Knight Pride and will ensure that the AlumKnights have the resources necessary to fully support the DNHS community.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Angelo Gonzales, Treasurer, treasurer@alumknights.info.

DNHS Band Needs Your Support on Oct 11th

The DNHS Marching Band needs a few more volunteers to fulfill their obligation to the NM Pageant of Bands competition taking place Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Wilson Stadium. In addition, the band is the first to perform at 8:00 am and needs an audience!

The NM Pageant of Bands is an annual state-wide marching band competition produced by volunteers from high schools in Albuquerque. In return, member bands receive a portion of the proceeds based on volunteer participation. Last year the apportionment was $400 thanks to the support of the AlumKnights. DNHS still needs a few volunteers for the Pageant on Saturday, October 11 at Wilson Stadium (near Manzano HS). In particular they need at least 1 more for the 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm shift. The other shift they can assign is the 2:15 pm to 5:00 pm shift. If you can help, please contact Dan Jones – abqdanj@gmail.com.

In a random draw, DNHS got a less than ideal performance order. They are the first band to compete at 8:00 am. That means they will be performing to pretty-much empty stands which is quite disheartening to the students that have worked so hard on their program. Your attendance and cheering would be greatly appreciated. The event starts with the Star Spangled Banner at 7:45 am with Del Norte’s performance following. Tickets at the gate are $10, or $8 for students/seniors.

A new feature of the annual fundraiser is having a school be “adopted” as part of the live auction. This year the Del Norte fine & performing arts will be the school to be auctioned. All proceeds go to the Del Norte program. Tickets are $50. The DN fine arts faculty will be comped with tickets.

SPEAKER AT SEPT. 16 ALUMKNIGHTS MEETING

The AlumKnights Sept. 16, 2014 speaker is teacher Dan Ferguson who has spent 32 years in education. After stints with the Juvenile Detention Center and Santa Fe Indian School, he has been with APS for 18 years. This is his first year at Del Norte working with Native American students. His teaching schedule includes Native Studies I and II along with Native American Leadership.

The APS Indian Education Dept. has a focus on the Del Norte cluster including Hodgin Elementary and McKinley Mid.

AVID Presentation

This months guest speaker at the General Membership Meeting will be Joel Fouser who will be giving a presentation about AVID. What is AVID you ask? It’s a college readiness program that targets students who need help to prepare for college. Del Norte High School has an AVID program because its student population is mobile, diverse, and low income.

The general membership meeting will be held on August 19th, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at DNHS in the Orchestra Room (Room #105).
