Allen Krumm is principal the entire decade. The voting age goes from 21
down to 18 in 1971.
Eldorado HS opens in 1970 but no other APS high schools open in the 1970’s. President Richard Nixon resigns August 9, 1974 and is succeeded by Gerald Ford.
Del Norte’s campus expands with an auto mechanics building, home economics building and science wing. The original gymnasium continues as the only gymnasium. American celebrates its 200th birthday in 1976.
The Castelles Drill Team starts in 1971 under the sponsorship of PE teacher Jackie Graham. The Castelles march in the 1975 Rose Bowl Parade. Albuquerquean Pete Dominici becomes US Senator Jan. 1973; Montoya is US Senator until January 1977 when Harrison “Jack” Schmidt.
1972, August – 685 seniors register Bruce King and Jerry Apodaca serves as governor.
1972 Title IX requires that female athletes are treated the same way as male athletes. High schools are given three years to begin girls athletics. Del Norte begins girls teams in 1974-1975.  
The 1974 football team coached by Howard Anderson are the State Champions.  
Ninth graders are moved out of junior high and become part of high school in the 1976-77 year.  
1978 Long time activities director Jay Thibert steps down to become a full time faculty member.
