The Del Norte High School Ballet Folklórico program started as part of the Spanish classes taught by Elaine Alarid, who graduated in West Mesa’s first class of 1968. Alarid started teaching at Del Norte in 1973 and retired from APS after 34 years of teaching Spanish.
Alarid’s Ballet Folklórico student dancers who were part of the Ballet Folklórico program at Del Norte High School in the 1980s-2010, now entertain across the city and state, with some special out-of-state performances. She sewed regional dance costumes and repaired other costumes donated to the ensemble.
