The Del Norte High School Air Force JROTC Precision Air Rifle team won the 2021-2022 Air Force JROTC National Championship. The annual competition is open to all AFJROTC cadets and AFJROTC unit teams. All individuals fire a 3X10 course of fire. Each JROTC Unit team scores are determined by the top four individual scores of cadets in that unit. Senior DNHS AF JROTC cadets Veronica Bearup, Evelyn Johnson, Angel Lopez, Mateo Moreno and Kasandra Vela put together thee #1 performances. The cadets participated in prone, standing, and kneeling shooting and finished first in the Overall Precision Team score.
“These cadets, all seniors, have been working on their craft throughout their high school careers, spending thousands of hours practicing and competing for the right to be called champions of the entire Air Force nation,” said Col. Michael F. Lamb, USAF (retired) and Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Del Norte High School. “No one can take this away from them, they are now immortal, and I couldn’t be more proud.”
The DNHS AFJROTC Precision Air Rifle team has qualified for the 2022 National JROTC Championship for all military services at Camp Perry, Ohio March 17-19, 2022. DNHS AFJROTC Cadet Kasandra Vela has also qualified for the Precision Individual competition.
