UNM has announced that Del Norte’s Shane Douma-Sanchez will be joining the Lobos as an incoming freshman. He is a 6’1 guard who earned three first-team 4A All-State honors. He led the state with 32.5 points per game. Shane set the record for most points in a game by an Albuquerque high school player after scoring 60 points against Eldorado.
From UNM: “It is always important for us to recruit the best players in the state of New Mexico and we have done that with the addition of Shane,” said head coach Richard Pitino. “He is a winner. He is the state player of the year. He put up some incredible stats in high school and led his team to a lot of success and we believe he will be a great Lobo.”
“Becoming a Lobo is a lifelong dream come true,” said Douma-Sanchez. “I grew up coming to games at The Pit and going to the summer camps. I always imagined what it would be like to put on that uniform and run down the ramp in front of a sold out Pit. I appreciate the coaches for giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait to get to work.”
