New Mexico State Representative Andrés Romero, a graduate of Del Norte High School, was recently featured in a “New Mexico in Focus” piece on New Mexico PBS. As the chair of the Legislative Education Study Committee, Andrés discussed potential changes to federal education policy.
Originally a student at Rio Grande High School, Andrés transferred to Del Norte in his junior year, graduating in 2006. He then attended the University of New Mexico, earning dual bachelor’s degrees in History and Philosophy. After graduation, he worked as a Program Assistant for the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office before returning to UNM to complete a master’s degree in History. Andrés began his teaching career as a social studies educator at Atrisco Heritage Academy. In 2014, he was elected to represent District 10, which includes Albuquerque’s South Valley, in the New Mexico House of Representatives.
