Del Norte High School’s Shane Douma-Sanchez became the Knight’s all time leading scorer, surpassing professional basketball player Scott Bamforth in a game against West Mesa on Saturday, Dec 17, 2022 . Shane was selected the Player of the Game with 35 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists. Following Saturday’s game, Douma-Sanchez is at 1,281 career points.
Shane had this to say about Scott Bamforth: “Since I knew I was going to Del Norte I really looked up to Scott,” said Douma-Sanchez. “I reached out to him, I know him personally, I work out with him sometimes, and just to pass him it is so surreal, because I know the career he had. Not just in high school, but professionally and its just really an honor to say that I am past him.”
The Del Norte senior guard also set a record on the opening night of the 2023 Albuquerque Metro Basketball Championships. He scored a career-high 60 points in a 72-67 loss at home to Eldorado. According to the New Mexico Activities Association, the 60-point total is the most ever scored in a single game by any boy at any Albuquerque high school, public or private. Shane ranks ninth on the state’s all-time list.
